Bellringing

We have an active band of ringers and welcome visiting ringers and new recruits to the quintessentially English art of change ringing. We normally ring from 5:15 to 6:00 pm for the Sunday evening service and practice on Wednesday evenings from 7:45 to 9:00 pm.  We also ring for weddings as required and other special occasions such as the New Year.

When the church was first built in 1857 a solitary bell called people to worship. Later, in 1906, a peal of eight bells was installed through the generosity of the Inston sisters in memory of their late father, Thomas Inston, a local builder and benefactor. The bells were cast by JB Barwell of Birmingham and installed after extensive alterations had been made to the belfry and baptistry. They were dedicated on Saturday, 22 December 1906.

The tenor weighs 13¾ cwt (705kg) and is in the key of F.  Further technical details about the bells can be found here.

The Tower Captain is Dave Reeves and he can be contacted on 0121-354 6264 or e-mail d.reeves@talktalk.net
